The TEDxLeamingtonSpa Team

Kimberley Owen

Licensee and Lead Organiser

After becoming slightly obsessed with the TED cause of sharing ideas, Kimberley has been heavily involved in TEDxLeamingtonSpa for its last two sell out events: in 2015 as Marketing & Comms Manager and last year as the license holder. This year she’ll be very much steering the shape of the event, ensuring TEDxLeamingtonSpa gives a global voice and brings in fresh thinking and ideas to our community.

With over 13 years' experience in PR/Marketing/Social Media Kimberley has worked with big brand names such as Heinz, Tilda and Marston’s (multiple breweries across the pub estate and also its tasty beers like hobgoblin). In her current role she is responsible for the creation, implementation and evolution of social media strategy for Mitchells & Butlers and all its brands, including: Harvester, All Bar One, Toby Carvery, Miller & Carter, Ember Inns, O'Neill's, Nicholson's and Sizzling Pubs.

Besides working frantically on TEDxLeamingtonSpa this year, Kimberley is a beer nerd (blogger), a ‘dank’ stepmother (that’s what the kids say now for good, right?) and also a keen fundraiser for NSPCC with her next charity trek taking her to Patagonia.

Paul Smith

Co-Organiser

After 20 years in the British record industry working with some of the most successful artists and creative talent in the UK, and then 10 years' experience in Retail Marketing and Planning for global technology brands, Paul is now a freelance retail project manager.

Apart from the project management contracts he also uses his years of record industry experience and his passion for music to guide and manage the greatest and most exciting young rock band in the Midlands (check out theellipsis.co.uk).

Through his involvement with the band he was introduced to TEDxLeamingtonSpa in 2015 when The Ellipsis applied, and were selected to provide the musical entertainment. This year Paul applied to help organise the event and we are delighted to have him on board. His role is to make lots of lists, lots of phone calls, drink lots of coffee, and keep the entire event planning on track.

Craig Spivey

Creative Director

Having held creative roles in design and marketing agencies for over 20 years, Craig’s innovative thinking and visual flair have helped launch cars for Audi, make farms a bit safer with NFU Mutual, brought mobile data to life for Vodafone and helped Marston’s pull more pints and pull in more customers.

Working independently from his base in Leamington, this past year has seen him work on brands such as TATA Technologies, National Grid and National Express as well as being instrumental in helping Stourbridge-based stationery company Helix re-issue a line of original products to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the release of Star Wars.

He’s an Associate Fellow of Warwick University, the Industry Advisor on the Visual Communications course at Warwickshire College and originator of Warwickshire's award-winning Backspace video games festival. A lifelong geek, he writes features on technology and pop culture for the Hong Kong-based Gafencu magazine, is currently working with Spa Town Comics to help stage ‘Spa Wars’ and boasts an impressive collection of little plastic space toys. His eldest son is also called Ted.

With a 15 year career in education and the arts, Annouchka has designed and delivered a wide range of award-winning courses for Warwick University and the Birmingham School of Acting, and has worked with partners including The Royal Shakespeare Company, Copenhagen Business School and the Design Council UK.  With a creative and intellectual passion for all things futuristic, Annouchka specialises in developing education strategies that deal with the kinds of thinking required to navigate technological and ecological complexities that are rapidly changing our world.  She has published extensively on this, and her new book 'Posthuman Pedagogies in Practice: Arts based Approaches to Developing Participatory Futures' is coming out with Palgrave Macmillan this year.

Annouchka was a speaker at TEDxLeamingtonSpa last year, talking about clowning, performance, teaching and learning and the shape of education to come. This year she joins its creative powerhouse to bring out the diverse and brilliant ideas percolating in our community and beyond.  (You can often spot Annouchka singing down the local pub, and occasionally wearing a red clown nose...)

Holly Hewett

Sponsorships & Partnerships Manager

Having worked over the last 10 years in brand marketing both in the UK and international markets, Holly's love of developing creative campaigns and engaging comms has helped her build a successful career in marketing. From developing an early taste for a great bottle of plonk whilst working for Molson Coors within the wine category, to discovering the latest international beauty and skincare products whilst working for Boots Global Retail, she has developed a passion for discovering the latest trends, new innovations and general understanding of what's hot – and more importantly what's not – out in the wider world!

From food and drink to health and beauty, and most recently events and interior design in her current role with Mitchell's & Butlers for the Premium pub division, Holly also enjoys keeping busy outside work with yoga, snowboarding and running –most recently completing her first marathon. She's also trying her hand at the odd spot of DIY doing up her house in Leamington Spa, although somewhat unsuccessfully so far!

Katie Watkins

Event Assistant

Katie moved to Leamington 12 months ago from Aberdeen, where she worked in the oil and gas industry. Originally from Glasgow, Katie now works for Jaguar Land Rover in the Globalisation team. Whilst at university she ran her own events organisation in Aberdeen where she managed 44 people to deliver weekly events across three locations. When not at work, Katie can usually be found running around Leamington trying to keep fit – but only in nice weather – or drinking wine in her locals.

Shahrukh Kazmi

Curation Team

Part of our curation team last year, Shahrukh certainly knows a thing or two about the application process and what makes a good speaker. Oh and he also works at Jaguar Landrover as a Group Leader in Adavanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS).

Minnie von Mallinckrodt-Grant

Curation Team

Minnie works with clients from all over the world helping them start and grow their passion-based businesses so they have more time and financial freedom. Her passion for sales and marketing enabled her to use her degree in Biology and CIM qualifications to work for global market leaders Johnson & Johnson, Abbott Labs and Kimberly Clark, growing sales internationally of their innovative healthcare products and services for 15 years.

Minnie joined the TEDxLeam team last year as a speaker coach after being invited to write a guest blog. She used her experiences in singing, acting and sales presenting to help the speakers feel relaxed for their talks. When she's not helping her clients or the TEDx team you can find her spending quality time with family and friends, at the gym, travelling (her most beautiful place is Aitutaki in the Cook Islands), or cooking and baking with her young daughter.
